Rapture

I realize that Saturday was supposed to be the day of "Rapture," however, I am pretty sure that day is today, Sunday, May 22nd.

I woke up early, showered and was ready to go out to Kiawah to work our Cobblestone job.  Chad decided that I should stay home (as he realized I was stressing out about stuff that needed done around the house) and that he would handle the check in today.  WOO HOO.  I felt a little bad (Rapture part 1) and decided I'd do something nice (Rapture part 2).  I decided, "I'll cook" (Rapture part 3) and then , "I'll cook for the next four nights"  (Surely hell cooled off at that statement) I'm not sure my husband knew what to say.  So he ran out the door like the tsunami from Rapture was coming.  (Ha!)

I pulled up this great site Smitten Kitchen and found four recipes that I'd like to try.  Next up?  Make my list and checked it twice.  Seriously, I did.  I am always forgetting something at the store.

Picture me walking through the store getting all of the things I need and then arriving at the meat counter not knowing what the eff a beef brisket looks like.  So what's a girl to do?  Well I looked over the counter and smiled at the old butcher man and sweetly asked for help.  I showed him my recipe and he said he'd help.  Well F*CK-when he came out with my 10 POUNDS of beef brisket, I literally starting laughing-HARD.  I looked at him and said, "Um, what am I supposed to do with that?"  I reiterated the point that I don't know how to cook and that I needed his advice.  Luckily this guy got a good laugh out of me and my honesty and went back and cut it down for me.  Or so he says.  This is what 7.65 pounds of beef brisket looks like:
Did I mention that it is just me and Chad?  Holy crap.  We are going to be eating beef brisket for the next month.  Ok, so I bought it, came  home and began to make the beef brisket from SK.  Here are all the ingredients I bought for the four meals.  (Granted some things like spices we already had)

Here are my steps in making the beef brisket-you know for all you skeptical people out there that I actually cooked  (My dear husband included)

Oh and my drink of desire was a big glass of wine, but because I felt I should be sober when using the stove top and the slow cooker, I decided this was a better choice:

Lemonade (No firefly added)

Tonight we are having tomato & sausage risotto and Monday night and the rest of eternity the beef brisket.  Wednesday night is a black bean soup with creme fraiche and then Thursday night this amazing goat cheese and asparagus pasta.

So keep your fingers crossed I don't burn down the kitchen, slice off a finger, poison my husband or turn into more of a drinker than I already am!  Cheers!!!  (With regular lemonade of course)  And if today is Rapture, well then I am taking my beef brisket with me where ever I end up!  :)

PS-the dogs must have thought it was Rapture-esque too that I was cooking.  Usually when Chad cooks those dogs are standing in the kitchen with him.  Not so much with me.  They looked confused and laid in their bed-the whole time...

So proud of you, Chef Mis! Just think of all you learned already. Now you know what a brisket is. Now I do too!
